A day of nothing

Today is a rare day. We have exactly one scheduled thing on the agenda (Mallory has a much hyped playdate with four friends from school…thank you Miss Christine for offering to host this epic PLAYDATE!).

But other than that – we got nothing. We have ribs ready to go for dinner, I’m hoping to get the firepit from my dad so we can do s’mores, and the kids are giving me the best gift of all – naps at the same time – WAHOO!!

But here is what we’ve done so far today. I don’t have a picture of me in here but I can assure you that “take a shower” hasn’t been crossed off my imaginary to-do list yet, but it will shortly (I promise I won’t go to Miss Christine’s all stinky).

First – we ate worms. I overbought gummy worms for the dirt cake desserts I made for THE PLAYDATE so I figured we could have some for breakfast. Yup, gummy sugary worms before breakfast. My mom might kill me.

Then we had real breakfast and thought maybe Carson might want to try to wear big boy underpants. He’s gone peepee on the potty about five times the past few weeks (always first thing in the morning) so I figured we’d let him try to run around the yard in real underpants and see what happened.

Nothing remarkable happened in the big boy underpants – good or bad – which I guess means we did OK.

But seeing your chunkalicious bunch of sweetness in big boy underpants is enough to make me freak out a little.

I need to add here that we went to the Tigers game this week (yep, add that to the “THINGS TO BLOG ABOUT” list). Carson is now all about carrying around his bat, showing us how he swings, dropping his bat and running, all while yelling “OH UN!!” (for “home run”).

Biggie – you might need to work on him keeping his eyes open while he swings…

The next thing we did was take a walk down the street to check out a garage sale. I’m not a big garage saler (I always feel that if people are getting rid of something, it isn’t worth anything in the first place, so why would I want it?) but I thought we could score some cheapy toys for the kids (so I wouldn’t freak out about them breaking them).

Score we did. We got Mallory Carson a pink Barbie drum set. Thank goodness he’s still in the “I want everything Mallory does” stage and doesn’t care that stuff is pink.

Mallory really got a sparkly Barbie horse and carriage. And we spent four dollars total. Probably could have talked down the price on the Barbie horse/carriage thing but oh well.

Other than the garage-saling, Rick & I brought our old entertainment center up from the basement (we are having a garage sale next weekend – cross your fingers that people will want our junk!). But does anyone use entertainment centers anymore? This thing isn’t set up to hold a flat screen (I don’t think the opening is big enough) but it seems dumb to just throw it away. I think we’ll try to sell it next weekend and if that fails, we will take to the recycle/reuse store.

And we decided on a color to paint the kids bathroom. We debated doing the batten and board thing too (I love that look) but I realized that it would make the project 18 times longer than just painting so we’ll just paint for now and we can always go back and add that later. I really want to get that bathroom painted and then do something with Carson’s room before football starts in August. I’m sure Rick is thrilled that I have all these projects lined up to keep him busy during his down time ;-)

I will now go de-stink myself and get ready for THE PLAYDATE! Happy Saturday!
