Of askidents and snunks

Rick & I were talking the other day and I was commenting on how many words we don’t say properly because of the kids – because we say them wrong with the kids and then that becomes our new reality. And then we thought it would be fun to make a list.

  • Askident = accident. I honestly say askident instead of accident all the time now. I can’t stop.
  • Flordida = Florida. This is waning because Mallory has been saying it properly for a while now but sometimes we still slip up. Mostly my dad.
  • Plum trees = palm trees. Adorable.
  • Ruv/scruv = rub/scrub. As in “mom, will you ruv my arm for me” (at bedtime).
  • Snunk = skunk. Mallory is almost 100% using skunk but we still say snunk.
  • Wallermelon = watermelon. Love.
  • Flop Flops = Flip Flops (Mallory). Mallory had everyone at daycare calling them flop flops back when she was little. She gets mad if I call them that now. Blah.
  • Bip-bops = Flip Flops (Carson). I’m trying to determine if it’s nature or nurture that my kids love flip flops.
  • Esspressaway = expressway.
  • Shouldaved = should have. As in: “Mom, you shouldaved letted me have chocolate milk for dinner.”
  • Smooky Forest = spooky forest
  • Soil Sauce = soy sauce. SO FUNNY.
  • Compudeeder = computer (we still say this, and so do Tad & Susan, but Mallory says it properly now).
  • Tookey = turkey – another one that she says right that we say wrong still.
I’m sure there are a million more but this post has been sitting for a couple weeks already so I’ll go ahead and post now and do an update when there are more ;-)
