Lake Skege-what?

July 7, 2011

While on our up north adventure we adventured south-west-ish to visit our neighbors who were visiting their parents’ lake house on Lake Skegemog (I’ll admit I had to google the name of the lake again because really – what kind of name is that? And please don’t ask me to say it.).
Lake Skegemog is connected to the better known Elk Lake and the famously-known Torch Lake. As was the theme of the week, the weather was fantastic and we got to go boating and tubing and funning on the lake.

Why I blog

July 7, 2011

I’ve thought about this a lot the last couple of days – as I blog from vacation – that it might be ridiculous to take time away from my great family and the great weather and the great views and great fun to put all this stuff on my silly family blog. And I’ve been trying to figure out why I want to spend this time documenting these memories.
After writing a huge post explaining and justifying, I realized I don’t have to defend myself. So I deleted it.
I blog for me.
I blog for us and our kids.
I am probably the …

Parenting Fail

July 6, 2011

At bedtime tonight, the kids wanted to stay up (mostly Mallory) and when Rick came in to say goodnight, he asked Mallory if she wanted to come watch bike racing on tv, thinking that since earlier today she said “Dad, can you put something on tv for me to watch that isn’t bike racing?”, that she would choose staying in bed.
Um no. Both kids popped up and said “I want to watch bike racing” and “I anna atch bike wacing!”.
Nice work, RB.

I wanna be a Cowboy, baby

July 6, 2011

Another fun activity we did up north was taking the little kids horseback riding. Kaylie, Mallory, Alex & Carson all got to go on a short ride and they all LOVED it.
There was a slight misunderstranding on where this horsy ride was taking place, so here are some pictures from us wasting time (hahaha, how many Kid Rock songs can I quote in one blog post?) before the kids started their ride. I love the pictures of Carson looking like he’s having a serious conversation with a horse. Or pony. Or mini-horse. Or something.

Just some pictures of my little golfer from up north. My aunt & uncle had a pretty green lawn that Carson loved using as his personal golf course. I think have have to work on his form a little bit. Oh, and Rick is thrown in there for good measure – he enjoyed some long hilly bike rides while we were up there.

Of askidents and snunks

July 5, 2011

Rick & I were talking the other day and I was commenting on how many words we don’t say properly because of the kids – because we say them wrong with the kids and then that becomes our new reality. And then we thought it would be fun to make a list.

Askident = accident. I honestly say askident instead of accident all the time now. I can’t stop.
Flordida = Florida. This is waning because Mallory has been saying it properly for a while now but sometimes we still slip up. Mostly my dad.
Plum trees = palm trees. Adorable.
Ruv/scruv = rub/scrub. …

I Dee Yit!!!

July 5, 2011

Today was my turn to yell “I DEE YIT!” again ;-)
Rick wanted to water-ski, and seeing as how my dad is leaving tomorrow (and taking his boat with him), today was the last day we had access to a driver so ski Rick did.
He started on the dock and made a loop and then dropped a ski and made another loop. The kids were both yelling and cheering and it was fun.
Rick asked if I was going to go. I tried to say “oh no…that’s OK. it’s too cold…yada blada”.
Then my dad reminded me that Emily hadn’t been able to …

Fish Kids

July 5, 2011

Our first day “up north” found us in Harbor Springs at the Treehouse with Doug & Sue, et al. We went out to dinner Saturday evening and before dinner the kids all walked the docks and looked at all the boats.
I promise we didn’t plan to have them all wear blue.

from smallest to biggest – Carson (2), Alex (4), Mallory (4), Kaylie (almost 6), and Brendan (9).

The Fourth – 2011

July 5, 2011

It has been a few years since I’ve been up north for the fourth. I used to spend every fourth at my aunt & uncle’s place on Walloon so I was fired up that it worked out that we could come up this week this year. RIck has only been here once, which is surprising to me, given how much I love it, but we’ve taken full advantage of our days up here so far this year.
We came up a few days ago and spent a night with Doug & Sue and their kids in Harbor Springs, and then came …

Another Rite of Passage

July 2, 2011

Carson was due for another haircut – and while Rick and a bunch of other people mentioned that we should let Carson’s hair grow to see if it would be curly like Mallory’s, I couldn’t do it – at least not in the summer. Carson’s hair is thicker than it looks and when you play as hard as he does, he gets really sweaty. So I opted to give him another summer cut and then maybe in the fall see about letting to grow a little.
I am also aware that he ages every time I get him one of these …
