It has been a few years since I’ve been up north for the fourth. I used to spend every fourth at my aunt & uncle’s place on Walloon so I was fired up that it worked out that we could come up this week this year. RIck has only been here once, which is surprising to me, given how much I love it, but we’ve taken full advantage of our days up here so far this year.
We came up a few days ago and spent a night with Doug & Sue and their kids in Harbor Springs, and then came over to my aunt & uncle’s. We took full advantage of our first full day here at Walloon. Rick started the day with a 30+ mile bike ride while my dad & the kids & I got ready for our day on the boat. Mallory surprised us by saying she wanted to tube by herself right from the start. Her smiles were hysterical, topped only by the “THAT WAS AWESOME” announcements after her tube adventure.
We made our way to another arm of Walloon Lake where there was a really nice sandy beach and we had our picnic lunch there and played in the water for a bit…until a woman came up and warned us that there are lots of reports of people getting swimmers itch after they swim at that beach, so we scrubbed off and left.
Love these sweet bottoms!!
Carson chillin’ on the dock with Aunt Pj.
After tubing and chillaxing we headed in to Petoskey real quick to catch the parade. I don’t understand parades (aside from Mallory wanting to get candy) so maybe I just don’t see very good parades? Anyway, after the parade and dinner, it was time for fireworks.
Carson quickly caught on about fireworks. Pretty soon he was saying “eye-oooks” and yelling at every little display folks were putting on nearby.
Also while we were waiting, he’d ask “eye-ooks are you?” (fireworks…where are you?). When the fireworks finally started, he was in heaven. After each firework, he’d ask “where eye-ooks go? ee wight ack?” (where fireworks go? be right back?). And he’d keep saying ‘”ower DER!” and point at the fireworks.
Thanks to a long late afternoon nap (2p-5p, when he usually naps 12p-2p), Carson stayed awake for the entire show. His big sis, on the other hand, crashed halfway through and wouldn’t even wake up for the finale.
I have more to post about our trip so far – but we’re about to head down to the lake to tickle grampa’s back. TTFN!
