Update to “See Ya”

So, yeah. The crib. The one I disassembled this weekend and then had Rick take to the garage tonight? We have a problem.

I guess Carson was totally playing us with the whole “I totally won’t ever get out of my toddler bed I love it so much go ahead and sell the baby furniture” thing.

He refused to stay on his toddler bed tonight so he is in his pack & play now. The one he barely fits in.

Which begs the question…do we re-setup the crib? With Rick not home at bedtime for the next 3+ months, the thought of doing the “sit outside Carson’s room for an hour while I keep putting him back in his toddler bed over and over again” thing all by myself doesn’t sound very appealing. Remember this is the stage where we let Mallory fall asleep in our bed because I didn’t have the energy to outlast her.

Hmmmm. I wonder who will win.

  1. No crib! He went how long? in the bed? Do it. He’s done. It’ll take a couple of days of sitting in the hall and grabbing him when he busts out (believe me. To his day, these are priceless memories of Nate!). He seriously thought “if I can just put the fake on at the light switch, and make it to the couch…I’m golden!”.

  2. See if he’ll help you make the choice then stick to your guns. If he helped you decide to get rid of the crib explain that to him and stick him in bed. He knows what’s going on.

  3. We still have to take the kids back to bed. Sometimes 5 or more times and they are 3 and 5. The trick is to just do it over and over. Don’t give any feedback. Just quietly take him back. It will get boring for him and he will eventually go to sleep.

  4. He was in his bed for like three nights. How long will I have to sit in the hallway (each night and for how many nights)? I have too many pictures to edit (for clients) to sit in the hallway for hours & weeks.

  5. Ah yes. And bedtime is a precious thing during football season. We taped a washcloth on Gabe’s door so he couldn’t turn the knob from the inside. My kids would pop off the ones they sell but that is also worth a shot. If you lock him in somehow he will eventually go to sleep. Just go open his door before you go to bed. Of course this is the cry it out mentality. You should only do this if you are comfortable with that and he is not too sensitive.

  6. We can’t lock T and M in. T is way to old and resourceful. We would have to put a bolt on the outside to keep him in. The feed off of each other too which sometimes keeps them in ‘playing’ but also creates messes. I have walked in to all of Mason’s clothes out of the closet and dresser, Turner up on the high shelf in Mason’s closet, sunblock all over, etc. etc.

  7. It really didn’t take long with Nate. Melissa is right about the feedback. Quietly pick him up and put him back in his bed. It’ll be boring in no time. Our hallway is old and small so we would sit back against wall and feet on the wall in front of us. Perfect for intercepting him! I bet it was only a couple of nights.
