Carson

Carson update

With all the kindergarten goings on, you’d think we didn’t have another kid in the house, so I thought I’d give a quick update on Carson.

He’s back in his toddler bed (which he calls his “big kid bed”).

He doesn’t leave his bed very much once we’ve put him down, but he does get out a couple of times, mostly to stand at the top of the stairs and yell down either “I COME OWNAIRS WIB YOU?” (I come downstairs with you?) [to which Mallory responded tonight – from her own bed – “NO CARTHUN!”] or “YOU COME DUDDLE ME, MOMMY?”, which is A-DORABLE.

I have to make a note here so that we will remember this forever – Carson is very deliberate when he talks – and there is a pause between almost every word, almost like he needs to take a big breath before yelling/saying the next word. It’s pretty funny.

A couple of other funny things:

  • “OOOhhh. OOk at DAT, Mommy!” – “oooh, look at that, Mommy” – usually said as we walk the aisles of Target.
  • “Dus UHN MOE MIYET!”/”Dus UHN MOE” – “just one more minute”/”just one more” – usually with an associated waving of one finger in my face.

He is talking ALL the time now – but he’s still pretty hard to understand if you don’t spend a lot of time with him. But DAMN he’s cute.

He has also been making progress with going peepee on the potty. We usually have to read him his Michigan Wolverine book (which both he & Mallory know by heart now), and sometimes get him a cup of water, and sometimes we turn the faucet on to try to get things moving. He has gone on the potty almost every morning for a couple of weeks, and we keep trying to tell him to go on the potty at school too, but he says he only goes peepee on the potty at home (again, imagine the pause between each word as he announces to his daycare teachers that he only [pause] goes [pause] peepee [pause] on [pause] the [pause] potty [pause] at [pause] home.). I told him one morning last week that if he went peepee on the potty at school that he could play catch with Denard. Then I quickly looked at Rick and asked if that would be possible. He didn’t say no. ;-)

Well, today Mallory & I picked Carson up from school and got the report that he went peepee on the potty! I guess we’ll be making a trip to practice someday soon so he can (hopefully be too shy to actually) play catch with Denard.

We stopped by practice a few weeks ago when the team was scrimmaging at the stadium. We saw Brady Hoke’s wife and stopped to talk to her. I asked Carson who the coach is and he answered “BayOke” (Brady Hoke…the only two words he doesn’t enunciate between!). Laura laughed and asked Carson if he knew Brady Hoke and Carson was all “Yeshhh” (like DUH, who DOESN’T know Brady Hoke) and then Laura asked if Brady Hoke was a nice man and Carson again was all “Yeshhh”. It was HYSTERICAL.

Carson’s other recent parlor trick is asking him who the quarterback is and he says “’Nard” (because, you know, he and ‘Nard are so tight that he can just hand out new nicknames and stuff…). The best, though, is when you ask Carson what Denard does, and Carson answers “WUN WUN WUN WEALLY FAST” while he pumps his arms back & forth like he’s running really fast. Sometimes, if the situation allows for it, he’ll take off for a lap to show you how fast ‘Nard runs.

And that’s my boy.
