Michigan played their first ever night game in Michigan Stadium last night. We won. It was awesome. It was exciting. It was everything it could have been.
I told Rick before the game that Michigan better win because otherwise it would have been a waste of a perfectly great tailgate and day. I left the kids with a sitter (thank you Miss Joy!) and prayed it wouldn’t rain and that we’d win. I wasn’t disappointed.
Our day started off with a family trip to Lowes – Rick actually didn’t have to go into work until about the time I was going to the tailgate, so it was weird to have him home with us for a bit during the day, watching College GameDay with him. Very weird.
It was also weird going to the game without the kids. But instead of having to keep an eye on kids in the backseat, I had to keep an eye on the people guarding the chili in the backseat. Good job, guys. No spillage!
Notice I’m wearing a raincoat around my waist. The weather was supposed to be horrible – storms and only a high of 72*. Um, yeah. It didn’t rain, and it felt like it was 1,000*. The sun was out, I didn’t have sunscreen or shorts. Thank goodness for jello shots. Lots of them. And beer. And fun friends.
This was me going into the game – I was pretending I was confused because the sun was out. I’m so cute.
Me near the end of the game. The atmosphere was insanely insane – it seems like not one single person left the game early. Denard got interviewed out on the field about 30-40 minutes after the game ended, and he was taking it all in, and mystified that the students were all still there (“the game is OVER!”). It was a really cute interview.
When Mallory came to our bed this morning, I told her that Michigan won, and we went downstairs to watch the end of the game. The end of the game was crazy – Michigan took the lead with 1:12 to go, ND re-took the lead with :30 left, and Michigan won with two seconds to go in the game. So when we were watching this morning and ND scored with :30 to go, Mallory looked at me and said “I thought you said we won?”. Oh, patience, young Michigan fan.
It wasn’t pretty, I guess, the articles all say there were mistakes made on both sides of the ball. We’ve beaten them three years in a row – which hasn’t happened since 1908.
It was weird to not have the kids. This post would be a lot cuter if there were pictures of my kids instead of me. But they will be back next week.
My mom & Mallory were talking on the phone this morning and my mom told Mallory that everyone at the game was asking where Mallory was (not really an exaggeration, since everyone in our vicinity really did ask where the kids were), and Mallory asked my mom if even the Notre Dame fans asked where she was.
Go Blue! It’s great to be a Michigan Wolverine!
Awesome pictures, but I think the one of the chili protection is the best! Thanks for the fun day/night! The tickets were AMAZING!!!
How about credit to the chili protectors on the way home??
That’s right, Grampa! Sam, you make me look good.
