All my wishing and praying that my sweet girl would stay little…it’s not working.
Remember the two loose teeth I’ve been writing about? Yeah. We’re down to a loose tooth, singular, because my sweet girl lost her first tooth on Saturday.
Mallory had a dentist appointment on Tuesday of last week, and while her two loose teeth could have used some good cleaning, the dentist said he wasn’t going to touch them because they were so loose (and Mallory was afraid the dentist was going to pull them out).
The kids & I went out to dinner on Friday night and when we got to the restaurant, Mallory told me she had a *really* loose tooth. Sure enough – it was so loose that it was moving all over the place just from her lip or tongue barely touching it. I got all giggly and called Rick to tell him he better try harder to meet us for dinner because Mallory’s tooth might not survive the meal.
Mallory was so funny – she was sooooo excited about losing a tooth (somehow my threat that she isn’t allowed to lose a tooth until first grade lost some oomph the past few weeks).
We were on tooth watch all night at dinner, and Mallory was getting a little freaked out about losing a tooth, and started to cry. We explained that it wouldn’t hurt but that it might bleed a little bit but it would be OK.
Dinner progressed without anyone losing any teeth so when we got home, we tried to get her to let me pull it…I was afraid to let her go to sleep – it was so loose I wasn’t sure if she’d lose it in the night (and swallow it…). It wasn’t budging (and she wouldn’t let us try the trick that Ryan told us to use – tie a piece of dental floss around the tooth and tie the other end to a door handle and then slam the door…). We took some pictures of her with her tooth all over the place so we could remember how loose it really was.
She is checking it out in the mirror of her jewelry box…you can see it leaning over in front of her other front tooth.
The next morning she still had all her teeth, and we continued on tooth watch. We ran errands (making sure to bring a plastic bag and paper towels with us to Target…just in case) and went to a birthday party that afternoon. I’m guessing that Mallory forgot about her loose tooth as she ate pizza because after a few bites, and after my second time of yelling “TOOTH WATCH” (so she could show me her teeth…), there was a big gap and I sort of freaked out. I yelled “STOP EATING! SPIT OUT YOUR FOOD! AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!”
Rick ran over to her and pulled what I thought was a piece of cheese off her lip, but really it was her first itty bitty lost tooth.
Then Mallory started to cry while Rick & I just kept looking at the hole in her grin. Then Mallory’s friend Alli started to cry and Mallory had to tell Alli that it didn’t hurt and then both girls stopped crying.
You can see the gross buildup on her tooth here – she has been so afraid to brush it for so long because it’s been loose for months!
Here is our toothless girl…the other front tooth is sort of loose too…will be interesting to see if she’ll be able to ask Santa to bring her TWO front teeth for Christmas! And take note that she did her own hair for this picture…like the six barrettes?
The tooth fairy came that night and left fairy dust on the windowsill and a folded up $5 bill in Mallory’s tooth fairy pillow. She was so excited and it is so funny to hear her tell the story of how she lost her tooth, including “…and then my mom yelled at me to spit out my food!”
Ok, so I’m a little squeamish thinking about the tooth moving around so much! That is so cute that Alli cried for her too, and the story about you yelling to spit her food out!
That is the funnest story. Brings back memories…..
The Tooth Fairy wage sure has gone up. It was 25 cents when I lost my teeth and a dollar for my children…. wow, sure pays good now. Have a wonderful Christmas
