Michigan’s 2011 season started yesterday.
The weather predictions were all over the place the whole week before the game. As late as Thursday night there were predictions of 60% chance of strong afternoon thunderstorms on Saturday. By Friday morning it had dropped to 20% chance – HOORAY! But it was now forecasted to be in the mid-90s. Hmmm.
As we packed up the van Saturday morning I totally forgot to pack rain gear. But it was like 80* and not a cloud in the sky at 9.30a. I had sunscreen though, which was all I thought we’d need.

Year: 2011
So long, farewell…
Last day of preschool for the pumpkinhead was on Friday. I was way more emotional than I should have been, given the fact that Carson still goes to that school, and Mallory should be back there next summer for daycare.
I did lose it big time with one of her former teachers (who is now one of Carson’s teachers). Miss Mary was one of Mallory’s caregivers in the infant room, and Alli and Mallory used to fight over Miss Mary’s lap – I’m sure there are some good blog posts about that from 2007-ish :-)
So, the end of an era, sort …
It’s football season
We use football season (and game weeks) as our family’s calendar sometimes. Like when Mallory, at 3-ish years old, told her teacher that FOOTBALL SEASON is the season that comes after summer. And the other night, when signing up for teacher conferences with Mallory’s kindergarten teacher – the other parents were asking “is that the week of Thanksgiving?” while my husband asked “is that Ohio State week?”
This year’s football season was a huge milestone for us to hit, because for months we’ve told Mallory that once football season starts, she would start kindergarten.
Michigan’s first game is tomorrow. That means …
Update to “See Ya”
So, yeah. The crib. The one I disassembled this weekend and then had Rick take to the garage tonight? We have a problem.
I guess Carson was totally playing us with the whole “I totally won’t ever get out of my toddler bed I love it so much go ahead and sell the baby furniture” thing.
He refused to stay on his toddler bed tonight so he is in his pack & play now. The one he barely fits in.
Which begs the question…do we re-setup the crib? With Rick not home at bedtime for the next 3+ months, the …
See Ya
The end of an era.
This crib has been set up in my house for five years. It came down today.
Hold me.
Beds and Bears
disclaimer – this post was written from my phone at 10pm, thus the poor flow and anything else that makes it not the same great writing you are used to finding on this blog.
Bedtime here has been going very well with Rick busy with camp. I’ve moved bedtime up sort of significantly and I am happy to report that I think I’ve witnessed fewer tantrums, which is a good thing.
Carson’s room is painted and we moved his toddler bed in there after the paint dried. The first night with this new arrangement – he wanted to sleep in his crib …
Thank goodness for little boys
Thank goodness for little boys who love their mommy.
Coming home from my hair appointment tonight (where I went all dark brown for fall – no more blonde) I kept checking myself in the rearview mirror, and was freaking out about what my hair looked like and Carson said “wook pwetty, mommy”.
Sort of takes the sting off Mallory saying I don’t look like me anymore.
Two weeks
This morning in my house:
Mallory: “Wait, where’s daddy?”
me: “At work.”
Mallory: “Oh, right.”
me: “I’m so sad it’s football season.”
Mallory: “I’m not.”
me: “You’re not? How come?”
Mallory: “’Cause that way we can win!”
Sparkle
It’s a rare night that our kids are up after dark so we did sparklers the other night after a late night at Dexter Daze.
No one got burned or had any injuries from the sparklers – which is always good news!

Daily Picture Outtakes
Rick is still doing his daily pictures of the kids in front of the 6’ ruler he made.
Some pictures are really funny. Like these.
