Mallory

Not my best parenting moment…

I’m writing this post about two months after the fact. Still makes me feel like a horrible mom.

It was a Wednesday, the last Wednesday in October. The Wednesday before Mallory’s birthday party and and the Wednesday before Halloween.

We got home from Mallory’s swim class and she was acting CRAZY. Like everything was making her mad and she was unable to calm herself down, and I was unable to calm her down.

It got so bad that I showed her one of the presents we knew we were sending back and told her that we were going to give it to her but I changed my mind because she was being so crazy. I also threatened to call all of her friends’ moms and tell them we were canceling her birthday party, and I also threatened to not let her go trick or treating.

I sent her to bed at 6:50p because nothing I could say or do would calm her down. I realize that my threats didn’t help the situation and I am fully aware that I lost control. Anyway.

So, she went to bed pretty fast. I’d like to point out that at no time did she cry that her ear hurt or complain of any sort of pain.

Fast-forward two hours. Mallory woke up SCREAMING at 9pm, complaining of ear pain. I thought maybe she just had some water in her ear from swim class but gave her some mo.trin anyway.

I called the doctor first thing and got an appointment for her to be seen that morning.

The doctor asked what was going on, and she then checked out Mallory’s ears.

After looking in the first one, she looked at me and said told me that Mallory ruptured her eardrum, and that would have been *really* painful.

Neat, huh?

What was neater was when the doctor looked at Mallory’s chart and said “Oh! You have a birthday coming up! Are you going to have a party? Are you going to get presents?” Both times Mallory looked at me before shyly answering “yes?”.
