Durings & Afters

March 26, 2012

I took some after pictures of our neighbors’ homes today – just to compare what they looked like a week and two days ago.

It’s crazy to see how green the grass is, and how a new roof makes everything look brand new so fast!

Some comic relief

March 25, 2012

I was browsing through some old pictures tonight, trying to clean up un-needed images. I came across these pictures of the kids from February when I needed them to sit in my “studio” so I could test out some new lighting techniques I’d read about.
My instructions to the kids were to sit in one spot and stay still while I changed my settings. I was hoping to fire off a bunch of pictures of the same “pose” with different settings so I could see how they all looked.
But instead, here is what I got: Carson giving himself direction, and when …

The week after the tornado

March 24, 2012

We are a week and two days out from March 15.
And it’s hard to remember what life was like before that day.
Our life now involves having to give our address (and possibly show ID) to the sheriffs at the entrances to our subdivision. It involves looking down anytime you are in the yard so you can keep checking for the ever-elusive glass we keep finding. It involves giving hugs and support to your neighbors and friends who were more affected by the tornado. It involves seeing more dads at dance class on Monday, as everyone is sticking closer …

More Daily Outakes

March 22, 2012

Just downloaded a bunch of pictures off of the camera that Rick uses to take the kids pictures every morning.
I am seriously dying here.
Enjoy.

A little bit of normal

March 18, 2012

The day after the tornado, after spending most of the day talking to contractors (and watching our neighbors talk to disaster recovery people and dry-cleaning people) and picking up about a million pieces of glass, it seemed that there was nothing else to do but sit on our deck, and celebrate that we were alive and uninjured, and surrounded by great people.

The days after our tornado

March 17, 2012

We’ve had a pretty surreal couple of days. Waking up Friday morning and looking outside was numbing – our neighborhood looked like a warzone. The disaster relief and cleanup teams had rolled in Thursday night (to apply tarps to roofs and start securing homes), but waking up and seeing everything by the light of day was tough.
School was cancelled for Friday, so I planned on staying home that day, and I talked Rick into staying home for at least the morning. I didn’t know what we needed to do, but I felt it was best for us to stay …

The day we had a tornado

March 15, 2012

We experienced a tornado today. We were fortunate that our house is undamaged and everyone is safe, but homes in our neighborhood didn’t fare so well.
So – here is how our Thursday March 15, 2012 played out.
Carson had a dentist appointment after school (he did great, I think because he got to watch SportsCenter while the dentist cleaned his teeth), and then we hurried home to eat because Mallory had rock climbing.
The kids were playing outside and there were constant rumblings of thunder, like for 30 minutes straight. Then I heard the tornado sirens. I remember thinking “That’s weird. Why …

Daddy & Daughter

March 14, 2012

Mallory had a big date night earlier this month…the much anticipated “Daddy-Daughter Dance”.
She was FIRED UP the week leading up to the event. She talked about how what if it was called the “Daddy-Daughter Kissing Dance”, or what if it was called the “Daddy-Daughter dance but with no daddies”.
Every day she woke up and told us how many more days until the dance, etc.
The morning of the dance she wanted to put on her dress at 7a. Later that day we were at the mall and I found a much more A-DORABLE dress that we talked Gigi into buying for …

Mall

March 14, 2012

Mallory’s school work as started to come home with just “MALL” written at the top. We call her “Mal” (like “cal” but with an M), and apparently she thinks you spell Mal with two Ls. Which I guess when you are just learning how to read and write stuff, it makes sense…when you sound out her name, the Ls stay together, right?
But whatever. I think it’s hysterical.
Our little Mall.

And I wrote before how she likes to find new ways to write her name. This is a favorite – having all the letters be joined together. Perhaps she …
