Shenanigans

Mallory did the Shamrocks & Shenanigans race again this year – but this year she upgraded to the Kids’ 1K race, and Carson did the Kids Dash.

Carson talked about it ALL WEEK, asking us constantly “WHEN DO I GET TO DO MY WACE????”.

He was also pretty excited to do it with his buddy, Becca. Becca just turned three. Carson looks like a giant compared to her. Carson was concerned that Becca didn’t have “fast runner shoes” like he did (she had regular boring pink & brown tennis shoes, not white & blue like his).

They lined the kids up by age group and because Becca’s mom was hanging out with Becca, I felt comfortable heading up the block to get pictures of Carson running. Well, before I had a chance to get my lens cap off my lens, I see Carson running at me, trailing the 5-yr old kids. Apparently he left early, and Becca’s mom tried to call him back to start with the 4 & under kids but he just kept running. I am bummed I didn’t get a picture of his face, but another friend reported that he ran the entire thing with the HUGEST grin on his face, and that the people around her were all giggling at him. I’m sure it helped that he was basically running by himself since the 5 yr old kids were so far ahead of him.

Then it was time for the big kids to race. Mallory and Allison ran the race with Christopher & Catherine this year. Chris is just out of the frame of this picture…I think he didn’t think it was cool to get your picture taken before the race. Just as we were heading to the start of the race, Mallory fell off the curb and skinned her knee. She was in HYSTERICS and I thought she’d twisted her ankle or something. Luckily she snapped out of it when she found Alli.

Due to some not very good race management, most of the parents had no idea what the course route was for the 1K race. So we saw the kids start running, and then saw them just at the finish. I love this picture of Alli’s mom directing the girls towards the finish line.

Mallory & Allison finished the race side by side. :-)

Here is Carson near the finish line. He looks like a homeless hobo.

Carson got pretty hopped up on his chocolate ice cream and he found some steps on our way back to the car. It was in front of a cool door so I am going to have to check it out on a nicer day :-)

When we got home, I realized we didn’t get any pictures of us with the kids dressed up for their race, so we made kids pose for pictures with us.

There is a 5K race in April that I’ll probably do, and there is a 1-mile fun run that we might see if Mallory wants to do. Even though she could probably run a 5K easier than I can run one mile.

  1. Too cute. C looks SO grown up. Wow. I almost signed my kiddos up this year but didn’t want to deal with the chaos with EB out of town.
