We finally did Carson’s birthday interview this morning. It’s not the same as the one we did with Mallory, I’ll do that one too but this one seemed fun too.
1. What is your favorite color? Blue and yellow
2. What is your favorite toy? Mr Potato Head and Woody & Buzz (editor’s note – he had never played with a Mr Potato Head until two hours before we conducted this interview).
3. What is your favorite fruit? Strawberries
4. What is your favorite tv show? Tigers baseball
5. What is your favorite thing to eat for lunch? applesauce
6. What is …

My running diary
I am doing the Couch to 5k running program again this spring. I don’t have any races on my calendar but I have this crazy idea that I might want to do the Disney Princess Half Marathon next February (how else can I convince Rick to take us to Florida in February?). I am not crazy enough to think that I can actually run 13.1 miles, but I do think I can walk/run/jog 13.1 miles in under 3.25 hours so I might try it out.
Today was week 7, day 3 of the program. I had a 5 minute warm-up walk, …
A Brain Dump
I have so much stuff I want to post about but don’t have the energy or creativity to do it right so instead I’m going to dump it all out here.
* * *
Until this week, “Mommy” and “Mallory” sounded the same when Carson said them because he said Mallory “Maw-wee”. But now he says “Maw-oh-wee”. It makes it less confusing since I know who he’s calling for, but it makes me sad that he’s getting older.
Carson sometimes just has a piece of bread and vegetables for dinner. I refuse to make him a separate meal so if he doesn’t like …
What a difference a thumb makes
Carson loves to make the “I LOVE YOU” sign with his hand, so when you ask him to tell you he loves you, he makes that sign.
But every since he turned three, he follows it with “but if you put the thumb in, I can PEW you!” and he pretends to shoot us. I think Spiderman shoots webs like that?
Baseball boy
I’m sure it’s not that unusual that a 3yr old kid is all over baseball, but remember it’s my blog and my gig and I like to brag about my kids.
But Carson LOVES baseball. He loves Awex Lavila (Alex Avila) and can tell you what the score is on tv. He tells grownups that he likes their Digers (Tigers) hat. It’s hysterical.
Last week we were watching a Tigers game and someone got a home run. Carson said “Bye bye!!!”.
Love him.
Five weeks after the tornado
I haven’t written about the tornado since we were a week-ish out.
It’s funny when I go back and read about the damage, or rather lack of damage, I thought we had. We knew we had some missing shingles and some damaged siding, and a busted up garage door and screen, but in the past month, we’ve discovered other damage.
We had a structural engineer come inspect our house a few weeks ago; he determined that we were very lucky in that we had lots of bracing in our attic space and that it probably saved our house from losing …
Things Mallory is learning
It is amazing to witness Mallory learn so much stuff in kindergarten. The reading, drawing, writing, “grow” & “shrink” math skills, songs, etc. It is so cool. She reads EVERYTHING to us now – billboards, text messages on my phone (remember that when you text me from now on…), random pieces of paper in my car. She also spells EVERYTHING. Ask her whose car we should take to run errands and she says “the M-O-M-M-Y’s car”. It’s crazy.
About that random piece of paper in my car. I picked up a flyer at her dance studio last week. About once a …
Soooo Boring
Mallory asked how much longer she had of kindergarten because it is getting “sooooo boring”.
I asked if it was boring because she already knew everything and she said yes.
Except she doesn’t know about scientists yet since they only started learning about them on Tuesday.
Carson at 3
I need to get Carson’s birthday interviews going but in lieu of that, I’ll share some other stuff he’s doing/saying.
But first – he had his well-child doctor’s appointment last week. I had to wake him up at the daycare for his appointment and he was sort of a mess when we got to the doctor. He snapped out of it quickly and turned on the charm for the pediatrician. It was hysterical.
She was happy to hear that he’s sleeping well, and eating well, and that he’s totally potty-trained, even at night. She isn’t worried about his speech (even though …
Gold Medals
A few weeks ago was the first week of spring football practice. There ended up being early practice on Monday…like early in that Rick had to be there at 5.30a. So I had to get the kids ready and drop Carson at daycare and then the plan was to take Mallory to Rick at work, and he’d turn around and take her back to school when school started.
Monday morning was OK – not great, but she did pretty well for Rick at work. His concern is that she would have a temper tantrum about something dumb and he’d have …
