Mothers Day 2012

I didn’t have the most romantic, restful, traditional Mother’s Day but I was surrounded by my family so I was happy.

We went out for breakfast (I got covered in syrup – thanks to Carson’s sticky hands). Then I had to “work” and take some pictures of a cute family. Then Carson & I went shopping while Rick & Mallory went orienteering.

At the outlet mall – there was a little Handy Manny ride on truck thing that cost 50-cents. Carson noticed it and asked to go on it. I told him if he was good while I shopped and was a good listener, he could go on the ride. After we finished at the first store, my sweet boy grabbed my hand and asked “do I get to wide (ride) that twuck (truck) now?” I told him that we had to go to another store first (I’d hoped that he would forget because I didn’t have any change in my purse. But as we headed back to the car again, Carson again asked if he could ride the truck – “but I was a good wistener at da store so I can wide dat twuck becauth I was a good boy!”. I realized there was a vending machine next to the ride so I figured I could use my two dollar bills to buy a soda and get change for the ride, which was a great idea until I noticed the vending machine wasn’t plugged in. We happened to be in front of the adidas store so I went in and asked if I could get change for a dollar. The dude reluctantly gave me change and Carson & I went back out to the ride…where I noticed that the ride said “STORES CANNOT MAKE CHANGE.” Oops. Then I looked down and hoped that the dude at the adidas store was OK with making change for my dollar since we were all decked out in adidas gear: my adidas warm-up coat, my adidas Michigan shoes, and Carson’s Michigan adidas coat :-)

Then we went for pizza at my favorite restaurant where the kids were a little wild. But they settled down and we had a nice dinner.

Here is a recap of my gifts.

Gerber daisies – my favorite flower :-)

This is a questionnaire that Mallory did at school. Not so sure about some of her answers: “fancy clothes”? “cleaning up & doing the dishes”?

The other part of the gift she brought home from school.

When I picked Carson up from daycare on Monday, his teacher reminded him to have me get the flower from on top of his cubby. He went on to tell me that he picked blue and yellow stuff just for me ;-)

Mallory & I were discussing Mothers Day last week (she tried to tell me that she had plans on Mothers Day and I told her that it was Mothers Day and maybe she didn’t really have a playdate set up for that day.)

She said “You get Mothers Day and daddy has Fathers Day but the kids get the rest of the days. We get more days than you.”.

Um, ya think?

ETA: I ended up also mowing the lawn after the kids went to bed – Rick did tell me to go sit on the couch but I sort of don’t mind mowing and figured that if I didn’t do it, he’d have to do it another night and not play with the kids. So I mowed and he went for a two hour bike ride. :-P
