I didn’t have the most romantic, restful, traditional Mother’s Day but I was surrounded by my family so I was happy.
We went out for breakfast (I got covered in syrup – thanks to Carson’s sticky hands). Then I had to “work” and take some pictures of a cute family. Then Carson & I went shopping while Rick & Mallory went orienteering.
At the outlet mall – there was a little Handy Manny ride on truck thing that cost 50-cents. Carson noticed it and asked to go on it. I told him if he was good while I shopped and was a …

Ball Boy
Carson is really becoming a baseball nut.
He spends a ton of time throwing (and chasing) the ball in the yard, and pretending to be the pitcher and catcher. And when he hits his ball off the tee, he runs the bases – and as he rounds each base, he yells “FIRST DOWN! SECOND DOWN! THIRD DOWN! HOME RUN!!!!!”
Carson started t-ball this past week with some of his buddies. I guess all they did was practice throwing and catching and running – there was no actual hitting a ball. When Mallory & I showed up (after M’s rock climbing class), I …
Two months out
I don’t know that I’ve ever written about how the storm affected the rest of Dexter. While our neighborhood suffered lots of damage, the main road north out of Dexter got hit pretty badly too.
Dexter-Pinckney Road is the road we take to get to our lake house. It was closed after the tornado and when we were finally able to drive out it 2+ weeks later, it was a huge shock to see the devastation out that way.
I don’t know if I’d just gotten used to seeing blue tarps and dumpsters and the signs of damage and rebuilding in our …
Kalahari Waterpark–May 2012
How boring are my post titles lately? I guess I am just happy to be posting so I shouldn’t beat myself up too much!
We didn’t do a big vacation in January/February like we’ve done the past few years. And then when you add in the tornado this spring – we’ve been sort of stressed out. All I wanted was to get out of town for just one night and try to not think about the house (or Rick’s training!) for a couple of days.
We ended up in Ohio at Kalahari Waterpark. The most exciting part of the trip there was …
Crazy Hair Day
This is how Mallory wanted me to do her hair today.
She must get her fashion sense from her dad.
Carson’s 3-yr pictures
I thought I’d share my journey in getting a good pictures of Carson for his third birthday.
Here is the first attempt – from early April. Not all the pictures from this session are this bad…some are worse. Gotta love a three-year old boy with a bossy big sister telling him to act silly while I’m trying to take pictures.
Fast forward three weeks – and I got these. GAH I LOVE THAT KID!!! I almost want to decorate an entire wall of our house with these pictures.
And of course Mallory wouldn’t let me just dress Carson up…
Carson ~ May 2012
Wednesday night – Carson was supposed to be going to sleep and wanted another cup of water. Rick told him he’d be right back with it but then he went outside with Mallory to ride bikes.
Carson started hollaring down for Rick “Daddy! Daddy? DAD-DDDDDDDYYYYYYY! I NEED MORE WATER!!!”
I started heading up there with his water and heard him say “I don’t know what is going on around here!”
I about wet my pants.

One morning this week I was brushing my hair before work, Carson was in the bathroom with me and looked up at me and …
Carson’s Birthday Interview
We finally did Carson’s birthday interview this morning. It’s not the same as the one we did with Mallory, I’ll do that one too but this one seemed fun too.
1. What is your favorite color? Blue and yellow
2. What is your favorite toy? Mr Potato Head and Woody & Buzz (editor’s note – he had never played with a Mr Potato Head until two hours before we conducted this interview).
3. What is your favorite fruit? Strawberries
4. What is your favorite tv show? Tigers baseball
5. What is your favorite thing to eat for lunch? applesauce
6. What is …
My running diary
I am doing the Couch to 5k running program again this spring. I don’t have any races on my calendar but I have this crazy idea that I might want to do the Disney Princess Half Marathon next February (how else can I convince Rick to take us to Florida in February?). I am not crazy enough to think that I can actually run 13.1 miles, but I do think I can walk/run/jog 13.1 miles in under 3.25 hours so I might try it out.
Today was week 7, day 3 of the program. I had a 5 minute warm-up walk, …
A Brain Dump
I have so much stuff I want to post about but don’t have the energy or creativity to do it right so instead I’m going to dump it all out here.

Until this week, “Mommy” and “Mallory” sounded the same when Carson said them because he said Mallory “Maw-wee”. But now he says “Maw-oh-wee”. It makes it less confusing since I know who he’s calling for, but it makes me sad that he’s getting older.
Carson sometimes just has a piece of bread and vegetables for dinner. I refuse to make him a separate meal so if he doesn’t like …
