Kids played machine-pitch baseball this summer and Rick was their coach. Mallory wanted to play softball but little league doesn’t have a summer season, and Carson wanted to play but I couldn’t deal with him playing t-ball again so with Rick coaching, they let the kids play on the same team together. They were both pretty good for Rick – only a few issues with them fighting with each other or their dad ;-)
Mallory’s summer season was affected by a thumbnail that got hit with a pitch off the machine and caused her to lose her nail (following about three weeks of dramatics as the nail became looser & looser and eventually was only attached at the base and sticking straight up in the air). Yes it was as gross as it sounds. Carson was the youngest kid in the league but held his own because he is a student of the game. So while he wasn’t getting hits every time he was up to bat, and he wasn’t catching every ball hit or thrown his way, he knew what to do with the ball when it did come to him and made a couple of plays that most other kids wouldn’t have known to make. The good thing is that both kids held their own and it was great fun to watch them play together.
They even had a surprise pitcher for one of their last games of the summer.
