Dexter Tigers

Kids played machine-pitch baseball this summer and Rick was their coach. Mallory wanted to play softball but little league doesn’t have a summer season, and Carson wanted to play but I couldn’t deal with him playing t-ball again so with Rick coaching, they let the kids play on the same team together. They were both pretty good for Rick – only a few issues with them fighting with each other or their dad ;-)
Mallory’s summer season was affected by a thumbnail that got hit with a pitch off the machine and caused her to lose her nail (following about three …

Swim Swim Swim

July 8, 2014

One of my favorite things about this summer has been watching Mallory be part of swim team. Swimming has been something that has been up & down for both kids, and in the past Mallory hadn’t been super excited about doing swim team and the necessary swim team meets (I was afraid she inherited my non-sports competitiveness and not her dad’s love of races).
When we realized that we’d have a sitter for this summer, I asked Mallory again if she wanted to try swim team. I was beyond surprised when she said she’d try it out, even though it meant …

So, Rick & I have a pretty sweet little girl. She started 2nd grade in September. Here she is on her first day of second grade, which also happened to be the first day of the last year that she would be at her current school. While checking out this picture, be sure to notice the super awesome cobwebs on our siding on the right side of this picture.
This little 6-yr old girl was missing teeth and didn’t like jeans or tennis shoes. But she was excited about starting second grade.

And then there is this 7-yr old girl. She has …

Graduation Day – June 2014

June 17, 2014

Last Friday we said goodbye to our extended family that we’ve been part of since the spring of 2007…daycare.
It’s been 7+ years straight that we’ve been pulling into that parking lot on the way to and/or from work every.single.day. The women who worked there loved on both of our kids every day and we love them for it.
I wasn’t as sad at his graduation as I thought I’d be, and I’m not sure why. But I will miss those ladies tremendously. Both kids made some pretty fantastic friends in their time at the Creek too. And I made some good …

June 2014. Already?

June 17, 2014

I feel like I need to explain why my blogging has decreased so dramatically. I think part of it is because my kids are older which means I am spending more time running them around to activities instead of sitting at home while they go to bed easily at 7.30p. Plus because they are older, it’s harder to veg out in front of the television and watch trashy reality TV – since I used to do my best blogging while watching reality TV. I feel it would be irresponsible of me as a parent to let Mallory watch the Bachelor/Bachelorette …

Opening Day 2014

April 27, 2014

I am so terribly behind on my dear sweet blog. I hate to think about it, but maybe I need to just promise myself to post monthly or something just so I know I am keeping stuff documented!
But the big news this weekend was that we experienced our first Little League Opening Day. I was sooooo excited, and I think the kids and Rick were too. It was chilly but since my kids don’t register cold temps, they were totally fine.
Mallory is playing coach pitch softball – her team is the Dexter Sparklers.

Carson is playing t-ball  for the Volcanoes.

Paws – …

Are we dead?

March 20, 2014

At almost five years old, Carson is well aware of the “are we live?” and “we aren’t live” rule when we are watching sporting events. That rule is that when you call someone (ie grandpa) when Michigan is playing a game on TV, you have to ask if the other person is live before you start talking about the game.
Tonight, we aren’t live on the Michigan basketball game. After grandpa called to see where we were in the game, Carson asked if we were live. I said no, that we were about 30 minutes behind.
Carson asked “are we dead?”
