(So I guess I need to change my plan from trying to post monthly to posting seasonally? Well, spring came. And this happened.)
Yes, we got a puppy. Super Coops turned 10 in March and seeing has how we were owed a free puppy from the breeder where we got Cooper (what with his defective elbows and all) we cashed in on that guarantee! In mid-April we checked out some almost five week old puppies and there was one male black lab pup left (out of a litter of 13!). We brought him home May 8th and potty accidents aside, we feel we’ve lucked out in the puppy department. I fully understand that things could fall apart in the “teenage” years but right now he’s really good.
He was about 10+ pounds when we brought him home and less than a week later he was 12 lbs. Two weeks later he was up to 17 lbs and two weeks after that he was up to 23 lbs. So he’s pretty much getting huge by the day.
We had a hard time deciding on a name. Rick wanted Arlo but since that was what Carson’s name was when he was still in my tummy, and it’s the name or our elf, we decided we couldn’t use it. Carson wanted to use “Sports”, which was the front-runner for a couple of weeks. Mallory wanted a name that started with an M, since Carson & Cooper both start with C. Then “Marlo” came to us (M + Arlo = Marlo) and it was the front-runner when it was time to actually pick the puppy up so that’s what it ended up being. And then when we had to pick his AKC registered name, I chose Marlo of Sportsville.
Rick was *really* worried about how Cooper would take to having a puppy in the house. The first few days weren’t good – Cooper was MAD and had ZERO patience for the puppy. But now, two months in – they are great friends. Cooper is getting more walks & treats than he was previously, and he has someone to play with. The growling and barking is sort of annoying but it’s all in fun (for them) so I try to not let it drive me too crazy. It’s funny because when we try to work with Marlo on commands, Cooper is always there first like “SEE! I CAN DO IT!! GIVE ME A TREAT!!!”
shhhh…don’t tell Marlo he has a girl name…
