Carson has been begging to go to an away game this year. With only four options, one being not remotely an option (in Columbus) and another being a plane ride away (at Rutgers) and another being the same weekend as the kids big swim meet (at Iowa), that left the game in east Lansing as the only opportunity. I’ve been to EL before. They aren’t usually very nice. I’ve taken the kids before and the fans still aren’t nice (one time I asked the dude behind me to watch his language because of the kids and he told me I shouldn’t have brought the kids. Maybe you shouldn’t be an a$$hole).
Anyway, since MSU had lost five straight I figured it would be sort of safe to go there for the game. I was right – the crowd was low key and respectful, just as they should be. Ha.
We left Mallory at home with Lauren & Aunt Emily and Carson and I went to the game with Gigi and Grandpa.
We were lucky to see the team roll in so my cute boy waved at the busses as they went by.
We got to tailgate with crazy Big Keith, and he lived up to his name…
Carson is able to make friends anywhere. He started to play cornhole with some friendly Michigan State fans, and then some other MSU folks took over the cornhole boards and he went over offered to teach them how to play cornhole and that was really funny. Then this other MSU fan started throwing a football with Carson. I’ve said forever that it takes a village to help with my kids at the tailgates so thank you for the friendly MSU fans who helped me that last Saturday in October :-)
Since we were 7-0 going into the game, and Michigan State had lost like five straight going into the game so it was supposed to be a non-issue that we would win. Then the game started and the Spartans scored on their first possession and it was a little bit of a shock. It wasn’t the blowout we all wanted or hoped for but we still won and the team was able to bring the Paul Bunyon trophy back to Ann Arbor.
After the game, my sweet boy tried to get some high fives from the team but the team went to the locker room straight away. Instead I think Carson was just checking out Michigan’s woman up front (see next post).
I’m glad we made the trip north to watch a Michigan victory and also because Carson was begging to go to an away game so I am off the hook for the rest of this season :-)
PS I should add that Rick’s role with football changed this summer; he’s still with the Athletic Department and doing equipment managing for softball, baseball and field hockey, but his only football involvement now is doing the headsets on gamedays [and watching the games from the climate controlled confines of the pressbox] for home and away games. This means he’s still traveling for away games so the kids & I still have Aubrees on Fridays of away games…thank goodness.
Your children are livin’ the life…. Good for all of you.
