Another summer, another Fourth of July (guess it happens every summer, eh?). This year, Mallory’s friend invited us to a fireworks show at a local farm in Dexter. We showed up with a cooler and blankets and Laci’s mom was prepared with festive headbands for all four kids.
If I wasn’t writing about this two months late, I’d have a lot more to say. But instead I’ll let you enjoy these pictures.

Hands On Birthday
The weekend before school started back up in January after winter break, Mallory’s good friend Laci celebrated her 6th birthday party at the Hands On Museum in Ann Arbor.
How cute is this sparkler candle?
Giving Laci her gift.
Mallory talks about Laci a lot, and Emma is a close second. Anytime Mallory comes home with a drawing from school, there are always three girls labeled L, M and E.
Rick doesn’t get it when I talk about it, but I’m pretty excited that Mallory has found these nice girls to start her school career with (and I like their moms, which is another …

Hmmmm…
CW – could you please just smile for a picture with your dear old mom?
Grandpa – was this as insulting to you as it was when I read a book during our tour of the Grand Canyon back when I was like 12?
Tackle football with the K kids. The first day back to school after playing with B, K & A usually results in the teachers mentioning that C was a little rough with the other kids ;-)
Weally weally fast…
We won. We beat San Diego State. Go Blue!
So long, farewell…
Last day of preschool for the pumpkinhead was on Friday. I was way more emotional than I should have been, given the fact that Carson still goes to that school, and Mallory should be back there next summer for daycare.
I did lose it big time with one of her former teachers (who is now one of Carson’s teachers). Miss Mary was one of Mallory’s caregivers in the infant room, and Alli and Mallory used to fight over Miss Mary’s lap – I’m sure there are some good blog posts about that from 2007-ish :-)
So, the end of an era, sort …
Sparkle
It’s a rare night that our kids are up after dark so we did sparklers the other night after a late night at Dexter Daze.
No one got burned or had any injuries from the sparklers – which is always good news!

Dashing Warriors
So I ran the first race I ever signed up for the other day. This was the one that got me to start actually trying to run this spring, and then I ran that other 5K in June – which was the first race I’d ever run. But the race today was the first one I ever signed up for.
But this wasn’t just any race, it was the Warrior Dash.
And this is what the Warrior Dash is: Warrior Dash is a mud-crawling, fire-leaping, extreme run from hell. This fierce running series is held on the most challenging and …
Lake Skege-what?
While on our up north adventure we adventured south-west-ish to visit our neighbors who were visiting their parents’ lake house on Lake Skegemog (I’ll admit I had to google the name of the lake again because really – what kind of name is that? And please don’t ask me to say it.).
Lake Skegemog is connected to the better known Elk Lake and the famously-known Torch Lake. As was the theme of the week, the weather was fantastic and we got to go boating and tubing and funning on the lake.

Fish Kids
Our first day “up north” found us in Harbor Springs at the Treehouse with Doug & Sue, et al. We went out to dinner Saturday evening and before dinner the kids all walked the docks and looked at all the boats.
I promise we didn’t plan to have them all wear blue.
from smallest to biggest – Carson (2), Alex (4), Mallory (4), Kaylie (almost 6), and Brendan (9).
It’s OK – I’m a professional.
We had a long overdue Hens Night Out* last night for Stacie’s belated birthday. After chips and salsa and some margaritas downtown, we got the obligatory SUPER CUTE group shots (and mini-group shots). But I won’t share the picture of my thigh where Mello gave me a big fat bruise for some reason.
After dinner we walked over to Kilwins to get some ice cream. I told the Hens to to stop so I could take our picture – and then I turned on my camera’s self-timer and set it up on my purse (which doesn’t make a great tripod, by …
THE PLAYDATE!
Thank goodness for Alli’s mom and her camera for providing us with this memory from THE PLAYDATE this weekend.
All of these girls have been talking for months about wanting to have a playdate and, as mentioned previously, Miss Christine took one for the team and offered to host this monumental THE PLAYDATE.
I made dirt cake for everyone (crushed up oreos with gummy worms and pudding) and stuck flowers in them. My darling daughter proceeded to have a fit when two of her friends picked the pink flower dirt dessert pots. Alli took one for the team and offered to trade …
