Mallory & I had a playdate a few weeks ago with my dear friend Shauna & her family. They traveled all the way from Kalamazoo to visit us for a few hours. We met at the Chelsea Treehouse – a really cool indoor playground (good thing because it was one of those yucky days we had in August) and let the kids all play. Shauna & her husband have three girls – ages 5, 3 & 1 – and of course it took Mallory about an hour to warm up to them, even though they were all over Mallory wanting …

Thience Camp
Here are some long-awaited pictures from “Thience” Camp.
I took the Mallory & Alli on “Frog Day” – so they got to look at some tadpoles & almost frogs in some shallow pans. The teacher also had some red jello which was supposed to feel like frog eggs (blech!). Then we walked down to the ponds to try to find some more frogs. I should clarify that I am part of the collective “we” in regard to walking down to the ponds, but I am not in the collective “we” when it came to looking for frogs. I’ve never considered myself …
Playdate with Alli
We got to have Alli come play a few weeks ago while her mom ran a race. The girls had fun for most of the day but it really is funny how they get on each other’s nerves.
They play so well together some the time…(sorry about the crying baby in the background)
and then they don’t get along…
I spent most of the day saying “well, then don’t stand next to her” or “then go find another toy” or “MALLORY – YOU HAVE TO SHARE”.
Creative Movement
Sweet Mallory and her BFF Alli did GREAT in their first dance class! It was 30 minutes of six 3-yo and two 2-yo kids running around like crazy. Our girls are sooooo advanced, they did great in the 3-yr old class. It has nothing to do with the fact that the 2-yr old ballet classes are only offered during the day because apparently only SAHMs want to take their 2yo & under to dance class…but I digress. God bless the dance teacher of these eight crazy preschoolers!
Here they are, stretching their ears so they can be good listeners in class: …
4th of July Weekend
I was pretty excited for the 4th of July weekend – since it is the only holiday that Rick doesn’t have to work. I guess he doesn’t have to work Thanksgiving weekend but that holiday always has family & travel stuff associated with it. The good thing about 4th of July is that we can just hang out at home and enjoy the lake.
We boated up the chain with my folks on Friday. The weather wasn’t great – it was grey and sort of chilly. Mallory kept saying she wanted to go swimming but it was way too cold.
Saturday we …
Waterpark Fun
We went to the waterpark with Alli and her folks on Sunday. The girls were *so* excited to see each other after the long break because of Christmas & New Years.
The waterpark is pretty cool – they had a great kiddie pool with a slide (see video below) and then a lazy river with a little side pool with a bench all the way around that the girls put a lot of miles on. And they serve beer! Not that I had any but I think Rick was wishing he didn’t have a hockey game later that night.

Too tired to come up with a good title
Here are the Mallory funnies of today:
In the car on the way home from school, I was yawning. From the backseat Mallory asked “you tired, Mommy?”
Rog is here working again today. Mallory asked where he went. I said he went upstairs. Then I asked her what was upstairs (expecting her to answer “(new) wall” or “mommy’s bed” or something). But instead she said “Wog!”, with a tone that said “mom – you are such a dumb-$$ – you just told me Rog was upstairs so why are you asking me what is upstairs??”
The girls were super cute when we left …
I’m a Big, mama
Mallory has a hard time with some letters and words, and pig is one of them so she usually says “big” instead. So here is our “big” on Halloween tonight:
We went up to Alli’s neighborhood to trick or treat tonight and the girls were HYSTERICAL. They quickly caught on to saying “trick or treat” first, and then “thank you” after, and sometimes threw in the casual “happy halloween!”. They both enjoyed seeing the decorations and spent a bit of time just observing the big kids running through the yards. Both girls were big hits at all the houses and …
My Birthday Coming Up, Mama!
Allison’s 2nd birthday was a few weeks ago and we got together with her & her mommy to celebrate both Mallory & Allison’s birthdays today.
When we were shopping for Alli’s presents, I kept telling Mallory that they were for Alli’s birthday, so she talked about Yaya’s birthday for a few minutes. Then she started saying “My birthday, mama!” so I had to explain that her birthday was a few weeks away, etc. Plus, we have been working on “how old are you” and “how old will you be on your birthday” for a couple of weeks so there has been …
No no no
That is Mallory’s new thing. It’s not just one “no”, and it’s not “no mommy” anymore. Now it’s a calm “no no no” – when I try to sneak a barrette into her crazy hair, or if I tell her it’s time to leave daycare. It’s pretty funny.
Here is Mallory taking a bath in our bathtub the other morning. I couldn’t fill it up too high because Rick was in the shower and I didn’t want to steal all his hot water. She was cracking me up how she was lounging there – and the face she is making is …
