This is Mallory’s last week of kindergarten. My sweet girl’s last week of kindergarten. You know, the kindergarten I wrote about nine months ago, before she started?
She canNOT be going to first grade next year, but she assures me that she is, because she is so smart from everything she learned this year, because she learned like from here to grandma’s house in Ohio much. And next year in first grade she will learn as much from here to Florida, and in second grade – from here to HAWAII!
I don’t know that I knew what Hawaii was in kindergarten. Or …

Mom’s Restaurant
Rick is gone to a half-ironman race this morning. Me, being lazy, didn’t even work out this morning.
Instead I got some work done before the kids woke up.
When they woke up, I asked what they wanted for breakfast. I was planning on eggs and bacon for me and the kids could have whatever they wanted. Sort of.
Mallory said she wanted cinnamon rolls but I told her that wasn’t on the menu. She asked what was on the menu, and being the nerd that I am, I whipped up a quick menu for her.
Mallory & Carson both chose cereal and toast, …
Texting with Mallory
Mallory has my old iPhone and can text people who have an iPhone (when she is on a wireless network). Our texting sessions usually result in some really funny exchanges.
Enjoy.
Spring Soccer
Both kids started outdoor soccer this spring.
The first two weeks were cold and wet (not full on rain but enough precipitation to be uncomfortable). I kept telling myself “this is why I haven’t let Mallory play soccer…this is why I haven’t let Mallory play soccer”.
But just like the weather – everything has improved each week.
Carson has done great every week – he goes like crazy for 45 minutes and then the last 15 minutes he is uninterested. But while he’s playing, he is so fun to watch. At the risk of bragging, he’s one of the best kids out there – …
Spring Bonfires
One nice perk from the tornado was that we ended up with a huge pile of wood for our fire-pit (from the tree that fell into our yard). We didn’t have very many good fires because the wood was too wet, but it was still so fun to hang out with our neighbors and get to know people better (that was another nice perk – I think we got to know some neighbors better than we would have otherwise).
The lack of a real fire didn’t stop us from standing around the smoking fire-pit and watch the kids run around the …
Mothers Day 2012
I didn’t have the most romantic, restful, traditional Mother’s Day but I was surrounded by my family so I was happy.
We went out for breakfast (I got covered in syrup – thanks to Carson’s sticky hands). Then I had to “work” and take some pictures of a cute family. Then Carson & I went shopping while Rick & Mallory went orienteering.
At the outlet mall – there was a little Handy Manny ride on truck thing that cost 50-cents. Carson noticed it and asked to go on it. I told him if he was good while I shopped and was a …
Kalahari Waterpark–May 2012
How boring are my post titles lately? I guess I am just happy to be posting so I shouldn’t beat myself up too much!
We didn’t do a big vacation in January/February like we’ve done the past few years. And then when you add in the tornado this spring – we’ve been sort of stressed out. All I wanted was to get out of town for just one night and try to not think about the house (or Rick’s training!) for a couple of days.
We ended up in Ohio at Kalahari Waterpark. The most exciting part of the trip there was …
Crazy Hair Day
This is how Mallory wanted me to do her hair today.
She must get her fashion sense from her dad.
Carson’s 3-yr pictures
I thought I’d share my journey in getting a good pictures of Carson for his third birthday.
Here is the first attempt – from early April. Not all the pictures from this session are this bad…some are worse. Gotta love a three-year old boy with a bossy big sister telling him to act silly while I’m trying to take pictures.
Fast forward three weeks – and I got these. GAH I LOVE THAT KID!!! I almost want to decorate an entire wall of our house with these pictures.
And of course Mallory wouldn’t let me just dress Carson up…
A Brain Dump
I have so much stuff I want to post about but don’t have the energy or creativity to do it right so instead I’m going to dump it all out here.
* * *
Until this week, “Mommy” and “Mallory” sounded the same when Carson said them because he said Mallory “Maw-wee”. But now he says “Maw-oh-wee”. It makes it less confusing since I know who he’s calling for, but it makes me sad that he’s getting older.
Carson sometimes just has a piece of bread and vegetables for dinner. I refuse to make him a separate meal so if he doesn’t like …
