One of my dad’s favorite winter activities to do for the grandkids is to haul them around on a toboggan behind his tractor. Since we’ve had so much snow this winter (for fake), my dad takes the kids tobogganing when we only get just an inch or two of snow.
That happened back in January…and we all headed to Grandpa’s. Carson wasn’t a fan of tobogganing, especially after he fell off the toboggan on the first turn.

Mallory’s New Song
Mallory came home from school yesterday and asked if I wanted to hear the song that her friend Emma taught to her and Laci.
We literally had TEARS rolling out of our eyes.
(And whenever Mallory finishes singing this to us, Carson starts with a real version of Jingle Bells…)
Abstrapt
Mallory came home with this in her backpack today. I asked her what it was.
She said it was “abstrapt art”.
The Boys
Went into Mallory’s room this morning to wake her up.
She rolled over and asked sleepily: “Are the boys up?”
I told her one of the boys was, the biggest one.
She asked if the 6-yr old boy was up.
Took me a minute to realize she was talking about Cooper.
You can say that again
We are watching ice dancing on tv and Mallory keeps saying “ooh that’s hard”.
Then Carson said “oh dat’s HARD!!”
Mallory said “That’s right, Carson. You can say that again.”.
Hi-O
In January we also went to Ohio (or “hi-o” as Carson calls it) to visit Rick’s mom for the weekend. And I do love how perfectly brainwashed my kids are because when we stopped to go potty at a gas station in Ohio, Mallory walked past a display of OSU Buckeye stuff and said “oooh yuck. Boo Ohio”.
We had a fun weekend in Cincinnati – Grandma took the kids to a Build-A-Bear workshop place to build-a-bear…Carson didn’t get that you weren’t supposed to take the full stuffed animal with you when you picked out what you wanted to make, instead …
Unpacked
Upon checking in to a hotel recently, Mallory took it upon herself to unpack.
She took her bag of bathroom stuff and set up shop in the basket that formerly housed the supplies for the coffee maker (after announcing “there is a COFFEE MAKER in the bathroom!”).
Badder Teams
“Mom, do you know who the badder teams are? The state teams. You know, Ohio State and Michigan State…”
Kids today
It’s no secret that I am a nerd and love gadgets but even this is ridiculous. When I tell Mallory she has something on her face, or that her tooth looks extra wiggly, she asks for my phone so she can take pictures of herself to see what I’m talking about.
I’ll admit I’ve done this a few times (when there isn’t a mirror nearby), but the fact that my 5-yr old does it too? It cracks me up.
It’s all in the details
Mallory loves to color and draw. I love when she makes something (at home or at school) and describes her artwork for me.
Today she pulled a drawing out of her bag of a rainbow and there were three suns. I told her I liked the flower and how sunny it was.
The best part is when she said back to me “Well, I need to do a little more detail on it. And by detail, I mean it needs some glitter.”
Sounds good, kid.
