Carson has been begging to go to an away game this year. With only four options, one being not remotely an option (in Columbus) and another being a plane ride away (at Rutgers) and another being the same weekend as the kids big swim meet (at Iowa), that left the game in east Lansing as the only opportunity. I’ve been to EL before. They aren’t usually very nice. I’ve taken the kids before and the fans still aren’t nice (one time I asked the dude behind me to watch his language because of the kids and he told me I …

Softball – 2016
After taking a few months off (due to a certain leg fracture and subsequent rehab), Mallory was ready to get back on the ballfield this spring.
She played little league in the spring and come the end of the spring, our girl was chosen for the Dexter All-Star team!! The team would represent Dexter Little League in the state tournament, starting with Districts, then Sectionals and then States.
All of us parents had watched our kids play all spring so we didn’t have very high hopes for the all-star run.
They practice four nights a week for a month, played a couple of …
All-Star
Mal-Star has become a big fan of playing softball. She played on a travel team this past fall/winter/spring, and then did Little League in the spring, and then last month she and 12 of her softball buddies were selected for the “all-star” team to represent Dexter Little League at Districts next weekend.
She fancies herself a pitcher but with that little issue with her knee in the winter, she got behind with pitching lessons and stuff so we just started those back up. Pitching lessons are good because she was trying to pitch like the Michigan softball pitchers which doesn’t really work …
Broken
So back in January I learned that in kids, ligaments are stronger than bones. So that means if a kid has a fall while skiing on a black diamond at Mt Brighton, for instance, they don’t tear their ACL, but instead their ACL pulls their bone off.
And this happened to Mallory Tuesday January 5. At Mt Brighton. On a black diamond.
We were scheduled to go out west later in January to ski, and bought season passes for Beaver Creek which allows us to ski at Mt Brighton here in Michigan. and lots of other places out west. In preparation for …
Cousins in black & white
I don’t take as many “real” pictures as I used to. Pictures of my kids just doing their thing and not knowing I’m taking their picture. I feel I’ve gotten lost in making sure I’m following the rule of thirds and that I have the perfect lighting (or as good as I can do), etc.
My iPhone has a bajillion of selfies and funny pictures & videos of my kids being my kids but I have a new goal of getting my real camera out to take more pictures like that of them. Sometimes I’m afraid of the extra computer time …
Diary of a Football Saturday – 2015
I love going back to read my 2009 post about going to football games. There are a few things that are the same but I wanted to write an update.
These days I wake the kids up by blaring the Michigan Marching Band “Fire Up It’s Saturday” album. They do a little moaning and groaning but the lure of tailgate donuts is too much to keep them in bed for long.
Carson has been going in early with Rick lately which usually results in some fun pictures from Rick:
Mallory used to help me make the jello shots for the tailgates but when she …
Catching Up – September 2015 style
I know I’ve said this before but I so miss being here. I wish I made more time to write here.
The kids are (mostly) still awesome. {I say mostly because oy did we have a rough bedtime tonight…}
Anyway – here’s our update:
Mallory is in 4th grade and continues to love school. She’s still swimming for the local swim club. Mal also made the 10U softball team in Dexter and is planning that Rick will still work for Michigan so he can be the equipment manager still when she gets to Michigan.
She got her ears pierced in August, just a short …
President Mallory
Came downstairs yesterday morning to make breakfast for the kids. Opened up the fridge and found this:
That night at dinner we were still giggling about how funny it was. Mallory told us that really Barack Obama rules America, but that someday she really would.
Rick told her she had to be 35 to president and she said she already knew that because of Barbie. Oh, OK.
Three
Three little monkeys, sleeping in my bed.
Good thing we have a king bed that fits both kids + Rick.
Mallory and Cooper
i need to make sure these pictures are somewhere Mallory will always have them. This seems as good a place as any.
I think Cooper thinks he is 20 lbs and not 65 lbs. but either way it is crazy adorable.
