If only I really could take fantastic pictures of my kids in every “I TOTALLY want to take a picture of them in that outfit!” outfit.
The reason this doesn’t happen as often as you’d think it should is because my kids are completely and totally sick of the camera. Pretty fun to be a photographer and your favorite subjects run from you, screaming “NOOOOO!!!!”
Here is the infamous Dominican “Gepluglick” (Republic) sundress and an overly adorable pink & white button down shirt. Add in a gorgeous day and grass that was finally starting to turn green, and some kids who were …

It’s getting HOT in here
After an insanely brutal winter, and an unbelievably long spring, and entirely too much rain, it seems like maybe – FINALLY – summer is almost upon us.
The forecast Tuesday called for a high of 63 and a chance of rain.
When we got home from work/school, it was gorgeous and sunny and in the EIGHTIES!
So I did what any good mom would do – I grabbed the hose, my camera, a beer and a lawnchair and let my kids play in our ghetto baby pool.
My New Coach
Update on my couch to 5k training.
I was supposed to run 25 minutes straight this morning. After 10 minutes I had to stop. I knew I couldn’t do 15 more so I walked 5 and then ran the last 10.
When I was done I told Rick that I decided that 10 minutes is my limit and I don’t care that it’s all I can do.
Mallory (who was up at 5.15a with her brother and played in the basement the entire time Rick and I were working out) said:
“Why wouldn’t you at least TRY?”
Damn. Nothing like being called out by a …
Girls on the Run
So.
Me in running clothes. Who’d a thunk?
Remember back in March when I talked about doing my 30-day Shred challenge with my neighbor? Well, that ended on March 30, and then my friend Jen (or “Biggie” to Carson & Mallory) talked Rick & me into doing the Warrior Dash – which is a 3-ish mile race through an insane obstacle course (think running through swamps, and over junkyard cars). Not real sure about that minor lapse in judgment, but we’ll have fun.
I decided to try to start the Couch to 5K program again so that I wouldn’t embarrass myself in the …
A softball girl watching softball girls
I realized I’ve only posted pictures of Carson at the softball games…so here’s one of Mallory.
As you can see, her curls love the humidity and much to Mallory’s chagrin, she won’t have straight hair any time soon.
No cake for mom
Mallory – an hour past bedtime: “if you let me look at your phone I’ll let you have some cake on my birthday but if you don’t let me look at your phone you won’t get any cake”.
More Softball
The theme for this past weekend was softball softball softball and more softball. The weather was glorious so the kids & I made it to all the games.
I’d like to point out that while I do like to keep my kids on a decent routine and schedule, I am not a super stickler for enforcing strict bedtimes. However, it makes life way easier to keep things pretty normal. So this weekend’s schedule wasn’t one of my finer parenting moments.
Softball Friday night, game started at 8p. Carson is usually in bed by 7.30p, Mallory by 9p. I didn’t leave the ballpark …
Ziplining Away…
My dad loves being a grandpa. Like he LOVES it. He doesn’t love changing diapers, but he loves hanging out with my kids and Emily’s kids, and spoiling them pretty rotten. Santa ALWAYS fills stockings for the grandkids at my dad’s house, and the Easter Bunny seems to make a stop at my dad’s house to hide all of his eggs so the grandkids have to go help my dad find all the eggs the EB hid, and then of course they get too much Easter candy…
So basically my dad is a big kid.
This past Christmas, my dad got a …
Phone Letter
We’ve been working with Mallory on learning our phone numbers. Rick’s is pretty easy, because it’s a good “patren” (pattern) for Mallory to learn. She has, however, learned it ####-### instead of the usual phone number sequence of ###-####, but she knows it and that’s all that matters.
Now we are trying to work on learning my phone number. I have a 0 in my number and when I was telling it to her tonight (###-oh-eight-two-nine), she said “NOOOO mom – you mean ZERO-eight-two-nine. OH is a LETTER and we are doing your phone NUMBER not your phone LETTER. ZERO …
Honestly!
Mallory just asked Carson if he wanted to go upstairs so they couldn’t hear mom.
