Rick and Mallory have this silly game they play when they are trying to trick me into thinking Mallory is really asleep. He’s taught her to make a “sleepy face”, which means closed eyes, and tongue hanging out of her mouth. The best is that she hasn’t learned the physics of gravity yet, so her tongue is usually facing up out of her mouth, instead of hanging down.
The gag has now morphed into whichever parents walks in while she is trying to sleep, or should be asleep, says “oh, she must be asleep, she’s making a sleepy face!”, which causes …

Umbabersatal Studios
My conference was only half day on Wednesday so we took the kids to Universal (“Umbabersatal” or “Umbabersal” in Mallorian) Studios in the afternoon – actually Islands of Adventure. We picked Islands instead of Universal because Islands of Adventure has Seussville and we thought that would be better for the children. I was bummed they wouldn’t get to see the Shrek attraction at Universal, but that was the only thing I thought we’d miss.
I have to say that going to other theme parks really make you appreciate the magic of Disney. This park had chipped paint, dead leaves in the …
Butterbeer
We went to Islands of Adventure yesterday (more pictures to come) but I wanted to share this picture of Mallory drinking Butterbeer in Harry Potter world yesterday. She was very concerned that it had real beer in it. None of us liked it much (they said it was like shortbread and butterscotch) but we had to at least try it.
She also wants me to read her the Harry Potter books…any advice on if this is a good or bad idea for my 4yr old? I’ve read most of the books and don’t remember the first one being particularly scary. Thoughts?
2010 Christmas Card
Remember these two posts from November (© Mallory Photography and Happy Thanksgiving) – with outtakes from Christmas card photo sessions? Well, here is our actual Christmas card, with some more outtakes below…
the front:
the back:
And here are some more that didn’t make the cut but were still super cute!
What’s up, Webcam
What happens when you leave your computer unattended, and your 4-yr old quickly learned how to snap pictures with the webcam (and change her hats with the webcam utility thing)?
And one of her brother, for good measure.
Going on a _____ hunt…
In between searching for “plum” (palm) trees, on our way from the airport to the hotel our first day in Orlando, Mallory was doing this in the back seat.
Thoughts?
She was searching for ALLIGATORS, duh!
2011 Gator Bowl, also known as I HATE COWBELLS
Blah.
Let me start by saying that the cowbells were obnoxious before we even got to the tailgate. The Mississippi State fans were ringing them all around downtown Jacksonville for days leading up to the game.
We had the nicest weather of the week for gameday – I made sure to sunscreen up the kids and we headed off to the stadium with the standard police escort. And nope, still doesn’t get old.
Some friends from home were down for the game and had a tailgate that the kids & I stopped by. The beer (for me) and hotdogs (for the kids) were …
Christmas Vacation, 2010, part deux
Our trip to Florida has been rather uneventful. The weather was SUPER yucky the beginning of the week so we hunkered down in the hotel and didn’t do much (like 30s and super windy, which I realize isn’t very cold, but it was cold since I didn’t bring our winter coats…)
Wednesday I was invited to go on the official wives’ trip to St Augustine. We got to have lunch and do a trolley tour of the city, and then we had some time to shop. That night I met a friend for dinner (Hi Amy!); it was awesome to eat …
Move it
Mallory has been singing (and dancing to) “I like to move it, move it” for a couple of months – apparently they listen to it sometimes at school, and Mallory & Allison always go to town.
Mallory got the movie Madagascar from Santa and has repeatedly requested that we play the music video special feature of the song. Today she told me to go back in the bathroom so I wouldn’t be able to see her, and so I did what any self-respecting mom would do – I grabbed the camera so I could secretly record her dancing (it takes about 10 seconds …
