Happy Golden Birthday, Mallory!

November 6, 2012

Mallory turns six today. She asked last night at bedtime if she turned six at midnight – I told her that if she wanted to get technical, she wasn’t really six until 8:11p on November 6.
I think she chose to be un-technical about it.

It is election day today so she doesn’t have school. Her present from Rick & me is a trip to Chicago, by train, to go to the American Girl Store. We told her last night at dinner (it’s a little anti-climactic because the waitress chose the total wrong time to stop and ask what we wanted for …

Sweetness

November 3, 2012

After a challenging two days, Mallory showed me some of her sweet side tonight. Rick and I had a party to go to and the kids stayed home with a sitter. I just got home and moved Mallory to Rick's side of the bed and she stirred and asked me sleepily with a smile: “are you home from your party?” I told her yes and she closed her eyes and went right back to sleep.
Love. It totally makes up for wanting to lock her in her room today :-)

How Denard travels

November 1, 2012

Rick was at the airport tonight heading to Minnesota; Mallory asked him if Denard was on the truck or if he was flying.
I don't know why it was so funny to me, but it was.

Game Day

October 26, 2012

Told Mallory we had nothing to do tomorrow – we could play and read books and do nothing all day. We only have to get Carson’s haircut and run an errand to Target but we were free the rest of the day.
How awesome is it that she said “but what about watching the game?!?!?!”
It’s an 8p start in Nebraska tomorrow night for those of you who don’t tell time by the Michigan football schedule.

I’m gonna miss this.

October 22, 2012

I am already sad about the day they won't want to sleep in our bed.
I love their sleeping-ness all snuggled in our bed.

Mallory sweating all over my pillow and Carson in his unders (because he shed his pajamas once he got under the covers).

October 21, 2012

Here are my sweet kids’ 2012-13 school pictures! It is really nice to know that they will smile on demand for other people’s cameras…

Mallory is in 1st grade (!!!) and Carson is in preschool.

Dinner

October 11, 2012

I loved this.
Mallory asked what was for dinner. I said I didn’t know.
She said back “I know when you say you don’t know what’s for dinner that we are going to Aubrees.”

(I have so much to blog about. I hope I don’t forget all the funny stuff before I have time to get it out here!!)

Example 4,384,189

September 22, 2012

Here is example 4,384,189 of why it’s a good thing I’m not a teacher (because I’m horrible at explaining things). Mallory was asking about how the gas gets out of your car. She asked if it got on fire in the engine.
I really don’t know what happens, but I know there isn’t a fire under my hood, so I told her that no, it just burns up, but it isn’t on fire.
I pointed out how the pavement was wet from the rain last night but in some parts it was already dry, so the water “evaporated”, and how …

Thrilled

September 18, 2012

Mallory brought a Fancy Nancy book home from the library today; if you’ve never read a Fancy Nancy book before, you wouldn’t know that throughout the book, Fancy Nancy introduces many fancy words (and tells you what the fancy word means).
One of the words tonight was “thrilling” and it was explained as “more exciting than exciting!”.
Mallory asked what that meant. As an example I told her I was “thrilled” that Michigan beat Ohio State last year.
She said back: “I am thrilled that we’ve won almost all of our games except against Alabama.”
And in a conspiring voice she leaned close and told me: “Nathan …

Kicking off the 2012 season

September 9, 2012

My kids couldn’t stand it that it was finally time for a home football game again. When Mallory woke up yesterday morning, I asked her if she was ready to watch the football game on TV and she yelled “NO! IT IS A HOME GAME!!!”
I was pretty proud of myself – I had my stuff all ready the night before so for the most part I just had to grab it and go in the morning. We were out the door by 9.50a, and after a stop to pick up my folks and the chicken and Miss Header, we got …
