Before & After

August 24, 2009

I wanted to share the before & after of one of my recent favorite photos.
this is SOOC (Straight Out Of Camera):
and this is after I “Lightroomed” it (using Adobe Lightroom):

I think I could play with it a little more, and I don’t know that it would ever pass muster with some real photographers, but it’s all about me and what I like and I think it’s fabulous. I tried cropping it down more to have it just be Mallory & Allison, but then it seemed to really lose the fun of seeing the teacher and the other …

Meltdown Meter

August 20, 2009

Alli’s mom & I are going to try to take the girls to a dance class tonight. But they had science camp this morning (I just realized I need to put a post up about that…will do after Alli’s mom sends the pictures) and Alli’s mom is worried that tonight might not be a good night for dance class. We agreed that we both reserve the right to cancel, depending on where each of the girls is on the meltdown-meter.
But Mrs C’s last email to me just said: “you know, of course, I include myself in the  list of possible …

I’m still here

July 28, 2009

You’d think by the lack of posts that I would be out of commission internet-wise but really I just have had those other projects taking up my time.
* * *
Please be assured that in my blogging absence my darling daughter continues to be completely hysterical and my sweet baby boy is slowly becoming a better sleeper (albeit with a SECOND TOOTH coming in!).
We are enjoying our last weeks of summer before football steals Rick away for four months. We’ve had lots of family time and just need the weather to cooperate so we can get some boat time in!

Busy busy

July 9, 2009

I’m sure you all have been wondering where I’ve been and why no posts (probably thinking my post notification email system was on the fritz again).
Well, have no fear – a new post to the blog is here!
This week has been very unusual and the combination has really cut into my evening time to myself (when I do my best blogging).
Carson’s sleep issues continued (however last night was *almost* normal). I ended up taking him to the doctor on Monday and turns out he has an irritant rash on his back and some eczema on his elbows. I was instructed …

Carson @ 12weeks

June 25, 2009

I mentioned back in April that Rick is trying to work on some project with all of my belly shots and then pictures of me holding Carson as he gets bigger.
Seeing as how Rick has been busy with work and stuff lately, we haven’t been getting the pictures as regularly as he would have liked but we took one last night.
So here is Carson at one week, and then at 12 weeks. I think I was holding him a little higher in the second picture but still – he is such a big boy now!

Happy Mini-Friday

June 18, 2009

The weeks are flying by. How is it already June 18?
I started a new job at work. Rather, I still have my old job responsibilities but I was given a whole another person’s job responsibilities. Time will tell if this results in a nice raise for me. Don’t hold your breath. I’m not. I am in charge of all the ordering of materials for all of the projects at the hospital, as well as receiving the material and processing invoices. So the new job has me interacting with the tradespeople all day every day and that, combined with my three …

Out of Focus

June 15, 2009

I got a new toy today…a new lens for my camera! It is a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II – and I first heard about it here (she takes some of the most awesome-ist photos of her kids…)
So, what can I do with this fancy lens? I should share that the only thing I remember from my photography class from last year is to keep the Aperture dialed way down. Or up. I can never remember. I think I want it dialed up which means I have a low number. Confusing, huh? Me too.
Anywho – here is my …

Michigan

May 31, 2009

I have to admit that although I’ve lived in Michigan for all but 1.5 years of my life, it never ceases to amaze me how we can go from freezing and snow just three months ago, with naked trees and a frozen lake and then boom – here is summer and it’s beautiful and sunny and green. It happens every single year: when the leaves start coming out on the trees I get all excited.
But I do need to say that I love all of the seasons.

My other Mother’s Day present

May 30, 2009

I keep forgetting to show my last Mother’s Day gift that Rick got me. Isn’t it adorable? Don’t give him too much credit, I sent him the link…but he did get my hint and got it for me for Mother’s Day. He got it from this place.

The reason I didn’t take a picture of it on my hand is that in order to get the detail of the rings, I had to shoot it in macro, which then magnified every single wrinkle on my fingers. And while the ring is really attractive close-up, my fingers are not very attractive …
