We tried to find our old house today. We found the street but not the house. Either my parents don’t remember what our house looked like or else all the houses changed in the past 36 years. All they can remember is that the carport was on the left, and that there was an entrance to the kitchen from the carport. We made it. Mallory was OUTSTANDING on the plane – a few little meltdowns but in general she was great. She even slept the entire second leg of the flight, which was nice, since it was 9p (and 7am Ann Arbor time).
A couple notes about our trip yesterday:

Think palm trees, white beaches, coral reefs – and the world’s biggest K-Mart. Guam doesn’t fit the stereotype of tribal villages and ancient cultures untouched by the modern world. This highly developed strategic US territory is no postcard ‘Tropical Paradise’. Sure there’s sun, sand and wilderness but travelers know Guam mainly for the duty free shopping.

Well, if you’ve gotten this far, you know we are going to Guam. We have had this trip planned since last February, as soon as we could book the flights with our frequent flyer miles.
Why Guam? I was born on Guam, my dad was in the Navy, and we lived there until I was 1.5 years old. Obviously I don’t remember anything but I have always wanted to go back to visit. We are gearing up for our big trip. Part of me thinks it is silly to leave so soon after the bowl game but I guess there really isn’t any other good time to travel. July is the only other month that Rick has down time at work and we want to be on the lake as much as possible in the summer. Two years ago we were getting ready for our belated honeymoon to Aruba…hard to believe that was only two years ago!
