Ever since Mallory started losing teeth, she’s been on this “I DON’T WANT YOU TO PULL IT OUT BECAUSE I WANT TO LOSE IT AT SCHOOL SO I CAN GET A TREASURE CHEST!!!” This results in some disgustingly loose teeth that hang on by a thread for weeks and weeks longer than they need to because she is waiting for it to fall out at school.
Tooth #4 had been ready to come out for a while and we were back on tooth watch.
So the day that Mallory got off the bus yesterday and I said tooth watch and she gave …
Learning through texting
I love that she practiced it on her own. Haha.
The picture I sent her is of her sleeping in her tent in her room and her feet were sticking out, a la the Wicked Witch of the East.
My baby is FOUR
Holy moly, guacamole. As much as I try to bribe and cajole my kids into not getting older/bigger/sassier, it keeps on happening. The most recent milestone was my sweet baby boy turning FOUR yesterday.
Carson’s well-child appointment isn’t until next week so I can’t report on his physical stats, but I can surely fill you in on the rest of him.
I am feeling lazy so I’ll just bullet point:
He is a basketball junkie these days. He plays in the basement constantly and is begging someone to play with him constantly. He & Rick have four set plays (sometimes five but Rick …
Cutest.Kids.Ever.
I know everyone thinks their kids are the cutest kids ever, but I need to clear something up.
My kids are the cutest kids ever. Witness them asleep tonight.
Together.
In Mallory’s tent.
Cuddling.
With Mallory’s phone and Carson’s new football helmet nightlight.
Game over. I win.
Snowflake Meet (aka Mallory’s first gymnastics meet)
Mallory started a new activity in the fall of 2012 (well, I guess technically she re-started an activity because she did gymnastics briefly a few years ago).
After two sessions of gymnastics we got suckered into signed up for a little meet at her gymnastics place back in December . It was sort of like her dance recitals where you pay money to sit and mostly watch kids you don’t know but it’s worth it to watch your kid do her thing with a HUGE smile on her face.
Luckily Mallory was the first one in her rotation so we could pay …
Hmmmmm
So, Michigan is playing in the NCAA tournament starting today. After a side conversation that included Mallory asking “didn’t Michigan lose to Wisconsin in the tournament last weekend”, we talked about how it was a different tournament.
When I got Mallory off the bus this afternoon, she had a green shirt on. I told her I hoped that the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State weren’t green. She looked at me with a nervous look and I suggested maybe she could change her shirt. She said yes.
Then she said…
“Or I could take my shirt off and paint my stomach!”

The room under the stairs
Before encouraging (or allowing) your kids to start an insane collection, think about what they will do with the collection when they are 40 (or what their wife will do with the collection). These are all full of baseball cards.
And all of these bins were under our stairs and would have prevented our whole family from taking shelter during the tornado, had I chosen to take shelter.
I’m moving them today.
The Dexter Tornado ~ a year later
March 15, 2013. The anniversary of the tornado that messed up our neighborhood.
I wasn’t as emotional yesterday as I thought I was going to be (ill-behaved children and a Michigan basketball loss helped keep my mind off the anniversary), but it a milestone I was happy to pass.
I don’t need to re-write about what happened on March 15, 2012 – you can read about it here (March 15, 2012 post). And I don’t need to re-write about what the days were like after the tornado – you can read about that here (March 17, 2012 post). And I …
Teaching Trash Talking to My Three Year Old
Carson did the Shamrocks & Shenanigans Race this morning and came in second in the Kids Dash.
After the race he was telling me all about the race and how he was behind this other girl but then he just ran right past her.
I asked him if he Denarded her. He grinned and said yes.
Then he said that he didn’t know her name. I suggested that maybe her name was Third Place.
He grinned again. And started the story over and told me he Denarded that other girl and her name was Third Place.
Handsome Hair
I have a little fun with Carson’s hair after he takes a bath.
I love that his favorite favorite favorite is “handsome hair”.
I look back at pictures from when he was little and he had wispy curly hair and I keep wondering what would happen if I let it grow a little longer. But he looks so cute all clean cut!
