This being outside stuff is AWESOME – Mallory will play and play by herself forever – chasing a ball, chasing the dog, hanging in her little plastic Adirondack chair, taking a drink of water, putting her cup back in the cupholder on her little Adirondack chair, going down the slide, saying “Hi” to Rick’s football guy statue. As long as I make sure she stays out of the Cooper-poop bucket, she has free reign of the backyard. It is FABULOUS!! Yeah for warm sunny weather :-)
Spring is Coming…
The lake is totally thawed, Cooper has been in it a few times already, and we are making the huge mistake of showing it to Mallory…pretty soon she won’t be content to just hang in the yard when she realizes she can go swimming every day.
This last picture – Rick had to grab Mallory because she was about to just start walking into the water.

We went for a walk in the woods tonight. I swear she weighs about 400 lbs. Plus she is always leaning one way or the other in the backpack so it works …
Weekend Review
I don’t really have anything to report but feel like I can’t go all weekend without a post.
The weather was crappy yesterday so unfortunately Mallory & I didn’t make it to the spring football game. Rick was working so Mals & I had our standard girls-day-in all day. For as easygoing as she usually is, she still shows flashes of my personality occasionally.
This seems like a perfect point to share the poem I read for the forensics contest when I was in the 2nd grade. I memorized this poem and won out of my class, and then I had to …
Amazing
Today was one of those teaser spring days in southeast Michigan – 70 degrees and sunny; tomorrow will be 40s and a threat of snow/freezing rain/blech. My boss sprung me from work a little early (thanks Z-dogg!) and Mallory & I made a trip to the local Dairy Queen. When I picked her up at school, I asked her if she wanted to go to DQ – she *very* enthusiastically nodded her head and was ready to go. The amazing thing is that she has never been to Dairy Queen before, and she does not normally nod her head enthusiastically …
Addendum to "This place is a mess!"
I realized I can turn off the talking part of Mallory’s new talking vacuum. But she saw me turn it off and she turned it right back on. Dammit Jim.
This place is a mess!
Mallory likes when I vacuum – she likes to help me vacuum and also tries to walk the cord of the vacuum like it’s a tightrope. I thought she would enjoy a vacuum of her own.
I made the mistake of getting Mallory a talking toy vacuum. This stupid toy says “This place is a mess! What a pig-sty! That isn’t a rabbit – it’s a dust bunny!”. But there might be a good side to it – I immediately got my vacuum out to clean up the mess and dust bunnies.

Crazy Cooper
I have to follow-up on our big walk in the woods we had last night. Normally Cooper is PASSED OUT after those walks, which makes them worth it – it’s good exercise for both of us but the best part is that he is too tired to shadow me around the house and stuff.
Last night though – when Rick got home – Cooper started doing laps with his stuffed lion in his mouth. I told Cooper that maybe we won’t go on any more walks since it apparently doesn’t wear him out. Smart puppy that he is, he immediately stopped …
Outside Baby
Keeping with her new obsession of wanting to be outside all the time – we immediately went outside after school yesterday. I figured Mallory would go up & down the slide and I could throw the ball for Cooper. But that lasted about 5 seconds, and then Mallory wanted to throw the ball for Cooper. And that didn’t work out so well since she couldn’t actually throw the ball using the ball launcher. Cooper was so good & patient for about a minute and then he just tried to chase the ball while in the ball launcher which pi$$ed Mallory …
Who does she look like?
We get this a lot. When Mallory was little-little I thought she was ALL Rick – the round face, dark eyes. Then I think she went through a phase where she looked like me – since her cheeks were getting Sammie-sized. And we get some random “she looks just like your dad (ie – my dad, Mallory’s grandpa)!” comments, which are interesting…must be the lack of hair and big tummy? Just kidding grandpa…
But seriously – looking back at our baby pictures, I think I see more of me in her now than Rick. She still has Rick’s eyes but the …
Spring Cleaning
I had a relaxing family-free sick day today; Rick & Mallory got home late this afternoon after hanging out at the softball game. When they got home, Rick wanted to do some spring cleaning in the yard and I begged him to keep Mallory with him. I was feeling a little better at this point but not well enough to listen to “mamamamamama” and “upupupupupupupupup” non-stop. But I was feeling well enough to try to do a little cleaning inside ~ when I was putting clothes away in Mallory’s room, this is what I saw outside her window:
