Poser

June 14, 2017

This is how Carson fell asleep last night. Pencil in hand, workbook open.

When I showed him tonight he accused me of putting the pencil and book there after he fell asleep.
Oh ok.

Mother’s Day 2017

May 14, 2017

I’m sitting on the couch, listening to the oven cook my bacon, the dogs are curled up next to my chair, the boys are trying to quietly play MLB Baseball on the XBox and Mallory is still sleeping, hopefully (she’s come down with a spring cold and needs some rest).
It’s Mother’s Day. We are eyebrow high in the season of softball and baseball games. Amazingly the kid’s travel team tournament schedules haven’t conflicted so it hasn’t gotten too crazy (yet!). We’ll see what happens this summer if Mallory makes the all-star team again – might have some issues then. But …

A lull

March 15, 2017

Another blog post on this lonely blog of mine, another blog post of me starting with “man I wish I wrote here more often”.
After many months of being very busy, we are in a lull right now. The kids still have indoor baseball and softball practices for their travel teams but swim is ramping down and spring ball hasn’t started yet. We have occasional nights off from activities but tonight it’s just Mallory & me at home; the boys are at Carson’s baseball practice.
The only sounds in my house right now are hysterical laughter from Mallory (who is watching some …

It was really nice of the dogs to let Mallory sleep in her bed with them last night.

Once upon a time…

November 17, 2016

Carson brought home a large folder of writing assignments this past week. I transcribed each page in case you can’t read 7-year old boy spelling/handwriting – I’ve only corrected misspellings for your benefit but be sure to read his actual writing.

Once upon a time there was a buckeye and it had 3 little buckeyes. Then the buckeye sent the three little buckeyes out to make a house of their own. So they were off.
The first little buckeye made his house out of Spartans. Soon a big bad Wolverine came by and said “little buckeye, little buckeye, let me in.” …

Michigans Woman Up Front

November 9, 2016

It’s no secret that the band is one of my favorite things about football game days. My kids share my love of the band and the excitement the band adds to the football gameday experience.
This year, the Michigan Marching Band has a female drum major. The kids & I ran into her when we were walking out of the stadium a few games ago and I got witness Mallory be a little shy for the first time in a long time (she’s normally very irreverent).
How stinking cute are they?

Saturday in East Lansing

November 9, 2016

Carson has been begging to go to an away game this year. With only four options, one being not remotely an option (in Columbus) and another being a plane ride away (at Rutgers) and another being the same weekend as the kids big swim meet (at Iowa), that left the game in east Lansing as the only opportunity. I’ve been to EL before. They aren’t usually very nice. I’ve taken the kids before and the fans still aren’t nice (one time I asked the dude behind me to watch his language because of the kids and he told me I …

Softball – 2016

August 11, 2016

After taking a few months off (due to a certain leg fracture and subsequent rehab), Mallory was ready to get back on the ballfield this spring.
She played little league in the spring and come the end of the spring, our girl was chosen for the Dexter All-Star team!! The team would represent Dexter Little League in the state tournament, starting with Districts, then Sectionals and then States.
All of us parents had watched our kids play all spring so we didn’t have very high hopes for the all-star run.
They practice four nights a week for a month, played a couple of …

Baseball on his brain

July 13, 2016

When you love baseball like this kid, I guess it’s normal to want to sleep in your dirty baseball hat?
